April 22 – Returning to the Ground of Being
God is the ground of being, the source of all existence, the ultimate reality and meaning in all things. Paul Tillich
Gregg’s Reflection
I’ve learned that living from the Ground of Being isn’t a one-time discovery but a daily choice. Even after profound moments of clarity, I find myself getting caught in the noise, the hurry, the endless small urgencies that crowd my days. The grace is in realizing that the path home is always open, and that God is as close as my next breath.
When I return to my center, I remember that my worth is not in my productivity, my reputation, or my ability to control outcomes. I’m reminded that my True Self is grounded in God’s love, which holds me steady through all change. The Buddhists would call it “coming back to the breath”; in Christian tradition, it’s abiding in Christ.
This returning doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes it’s as simple as pausing to breathe deeply, whispering a prayer, or looking out the window to notice the light. These small moments re-anchor me in the Ground of Being, where life flows more freely, and I am reminded that God is always here. When I speak from my depths, I encourage others to speak from their depths.
Scripture
For in Him we live and move and have our being.
Acts 17:28
Ancient Quotes
Stand firm in that which is, and you shall stand firm in God.

Modern Quotes
Each man must therefore discover this center in himself, this ground of his being… It is hidden in the depths of every soul, waiting to be discovered.
Bede Griffiths, Matthew Fox, Christian Mystics, p. 257
God is the ground of being, the source of all existence, the ultimate reality and meaning in all things.
Paul Tillich
Your True Self is your home base. It’s the place you return to when you’ve wandered too far into the world’s illusions.

Journaling Prompts
- What practices help you return to your spiritual center?
- How do you recognize when you’ve drifted from the Ground of Being?
- What changes when you live from that grounded place in God?
Contemplate what it would mean to let go of performing, striving, proving, and just learn to Be. Your true self is how you live out the Mind of Christ, and be God’s hands and feet in the world.
