Gregg’s Reflection
Seeing my father’s style, I thought leadership meant pressing people to get on board. I would press harder, use more arguments, or lean on my authority to try and get results. But I learned the hard way that striving in this way drains relationships and rarely bears lasting fruit.
Robert Fritz helped me see a better way. Instead of trying to control, he taught that we are called simply to make an offer — nothing more, nothing less. People are free to say yes or no. When I embrace this freedom, I am released from the exhausting need to manipulate outcomes.
This shift doesn’t mean passivity. It means trusting God’s Spirit to move in the hearts of those who are ready and willing. True freedom is found when my role is to speak honestly, offer faithfully, and then step back. It’s God’s work to open hearts — not mine.
