February 21: Finding the Faint Path
To discern means first of all to listen to God, to pay attention to God’s active presence, and to obey God’s prompting. Henri Nouwen
Gregg’s Reflection
Long before I came to Christ, I was on a spiritual search. The idea of “the path with a heart” drew me, though I didn’t know where it was or where it led. I encountered God’s Spirit in rare but powerful ways—touchstones that guided me forward.
When I began working in the family business, my life centered on my wife and family, my work, and my service in the church. There were mountaintop moments, but also long stretches in the valley, where the touches of God were memories I clung to.
My ability to discern God’s path grew slowly, over years and decades, through meditation, worship, Scripture, prayer, and wise mentors. Eventually, I learned to recognize the difference between influences that brought peace and love, and those that left regret or unrest.
Following God’s faint path is not about certainty—it is about listening, trusting, and taking the next step when prompted.

Scripture
God said ‘Go.’ So Abram went, as the Lord had told him.
Genesis 12:1, 4
