February 3: Deep calls unto Deep
The soul that is quick to turn to God opens itself to the deepest mysteries of His love. Gregory of Nyssa
Gregg’s Reflection
When I first encountered the writings of Richard Rohr, I knew I was near a deep well. His words resonated with something deep inside me, calling me beyond my False Self into my True Self through books like Falling Upward and Immortal Diamond. The Universal Christ deepened this journey, especially when Rohr quoted Psalm 42:7 — “Deep calls unto deep” — and explained that as we learn to speak from our deeper selves, we invite others to do the same.

At the Universal Christ Conference, Rohr shared that his German name means “conduit,” a metaphor that deeply connected to my own calling — standing with a foot in two worlds, carrying the best of secular leadership into equipping leaders for the Kingdom. I recognized that it was Spirit calling me through Rohr into deeper waters.
Over time, I have learned that this path into deeper consciousness flows through prayer and meditation. Prayer changes our mind so that we can resonate with mystery, infinity, and grace. Meditation teaches discernment; contemplation opens us to unity — seeking God Himself, not just something from Him. These practices have slowly shifted my awareness, helping me see the world more clearly and discern God’s faint path ahead.
Scripture
Deep calls unto deep.
Psalm 42:7
He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.
Daniel 2:22
These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10
Ancient Quotes
The soul that is quick to turn to God opens itself to the deepest mysteries of His love.
Gregory of Nyssa
Modern Quotes
Prayer is not an attempt to change God’s mind about us or events; it is primarily about changing our mind so that things like infinity, mystery, and forgiveness can resound within us… The Big Mind can know big things, but we must change channels. Like will know like.

Being Conscious or Aware means:
I drop to a deeper level than the passing show
I become a calm seer of my dramas from that level
I watch myself compassionately from a little distance, almost as if ‘myself’ is someone else
I disidentify with my own emotional noise, not letting it pull me here or there, up or down
I stop thinking and ‘collapse into’ pure consciousness of nothing in particular. You don’t ‘get’ there, you ‘fall’ there, objectless consciousness.
