July 24 – Scripture as Lamp for the Journey

I remember walking though a campground on a moonless night, headlamp lighting only the few steps ahead. At times, it felt disorienting not to see the whole way, but that small light was enough to keep moving forward. Scripture has often felt the same way in my own journey—it rarely lays out the entire plan, but it gives just enough wisdom, encouragement, or challenge for the next step. 

There were seasons in my life, especially when I left the family business, when the future was filled with shadows and unknowns. In those times, I returned again and again to familiar verses, letting them steady my steps. I didn’t need every answer, only assurance that God was near and guiding me. The lamp of Scripture gave me the courage to walk faithfully into the dark.

What I’ve come to see is that Scripture is not a book of static rules but a living light. When I allow it to shine into my heart with openness, it reveals both my brokenness and God’s grace. Just as a lamp on the trail helps me avoid stumbling on unseen roots and rocks, the Word helps me notice where I need correction, and where I am invited into deeper love. Scripture truly lights the path, step by step.
