July 4 – Mirrors of Mercy and Grace

I’ve always loved watching fireworks over a lake. The bursts of light and color overhead are stunning, but there’s something even more moving about seeing them mirrored in the still water below. It’s as if the light has found a second home, a quiet echo, a reminder that beauty often multiplies when it’s reflected.

That’s how I think of God’s mercy and grace. They come to us like the fireworks—bright, dazzling, impossible to miss—and if our hearts are still enough, they reflect outward in our own words, actions, and presence. The more open and untroubled the water of our soul, the clearer the reflection of God’s love to those around us.

But still water takes intention. I can let the winds of worry, resentment, or busyness ripple the surface until the reflection is distorted. Or I can slow down, breathe deep, and let the Spirit settle me so that God’s mercy and grace can shine through in ways that others can see. Like the mirrored fireworks, it’s not my light—it’s God’s light, twice seen.
