Gregg’s Reflection

I’ve always admired people who can open their hearts without fear—people who are willing to be seen in their weakness, yet still stand in love. For much of my life, I tried to protect myself from that kind of exposure. It felt safer to keep my guard up, to let people see only the strong, capable parts of me. This is typical of an Enneagram 8.

But love—real love—doesn’t flourish behind walls. I learned this in the hard seasons when loss or failure stripped away my defenses. In those moments, the friends who drew closest to me were the ones who loved me not in spite of my weakness, but because they could finally see my true self.

And in their acceptance, I caught a glimpse of God’s heart.

Vulnerability is not recklessness; it’s a courageous choice to step out from behind our masks, trusting that love will meet us there. When we dare to be known—really known—we discover that God has been loving us all along, even in the places we thought we had to hide.

Scripture
