Gregg’s Reflection

When I was younger, I thought being “made in God’s image” was mostly about intellect or creativity — the ways we differ from the rest of creation. But over the years, I’ve come to see it as something deeper: a truth about our very being. God has imprinted His likeness into the fabric of who we are. This doesn’t mean we are identical to God, but that our capacity for love, mercy, and relationship flows directly from God’s nature.

I remember leading a visioning workshop years ago and asking participants to describe the values most central to their lives. One man said, “I think my values reflect the way God wired me.” That stuck with me. We often overlook the fact that our truest values — compassion, generosity, integrity — are reflections of the divine image stamped on our souls. And even though that image can become distorted by fear, selfishness, or pride, it is never erased.

When I keep this in mind, I treat both myself and others differently. I’m more patient when I see flaws, because I know there’s a deeper truth at work beneath the surface. The invitation is to live into that truth — to act, speak, and decide as someone carrying God’s likeness. It’s a call to let His image shine through us in ordinary moments, from greeting a neighbor to responding to conflict.
