Jesus sent out his disciples seeking persons of peace, people who God had prepared to hear what they had to say. People who are not persons of peace will not heed what you say. Read on.
When I think of being “sent like a lamb among wolves,” my first instinct is to resist. I’d rather be sent like a lion — strong, persuasive, in control. But Jesus calls me to vulnerability. He asks me to trust that His Spirit is at work ahead of me, preparing hearts.
When I try to push, control, or convince, it usually backfires. But when I show up in humility, offering peace rather than trying to win, something shifts. My “success” isn’t measured by how many people listen, but by whether I am faithful to carry peace and attentive to those who receive it.
Discerning a person of peace is both freeing and challenging. It means I don’t have to chase everyone down, but it also means letting go of those who are not open. Jesus sends us to carry peace as a gift — if it rests, good; if it doesn’t, we move on.

Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road. When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
