Week Thirty-Four: Power of God/Power of Grace. August 20 — A Christ Soaked Universe
I like to say it’s a Christ-soaked world, a world where matter is inspirited and spirit is embodied. In this world, everything is sacred, and the word real takes on a new meaning. Richard Rohr
Gregg’s Reflection
God’s super power is compassion, loving us before we were lovable, empowering us to grow into the mind of Christ through the flow of Grace. We are the beloved, made in the image of God, growing into the Likeness, shaped by the Spirit.
Living at 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains has given me daily reminders of God’s power in creation. I’ve seen winds so fierce they topple trees, snow so deep drifts covered the car, and wildfires burning within sight of our land. But I’ve also witnessed the breathtaking beauty of sunrise, the delicate colors of wildflowers in spring, and the golden glow of aspens in fall. Wonder flows as we see Moose, Elk, Mule Deer, Bobcat, Fox and Coyote on the land. OK, not Coyotes, we don’t like them, since they try to lure our dogs off into the woods to kill them.
In all these moments — both terrifying and awe-inspiring — I am reminded that creation is not random but infused with God’s presence. As Paul wrote to the Romans, God’s eternal power and divine nature are clearly seen in what has been made. When I pay attention, creation pulls me out of my head and into my heart, where I can meet God in awe and wonder.

The invitation is to let creation be a window into the Creator. To see a soaring eagle, or a bear wandering through the meadow, or the quiet drift of snow, is to glimpse God’s strength, beauty, and presence. Creation is not just scenery; it is sacrament.
Scripture
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20
Ancient Quotes
The power of God is present at all places, even in the tiniest tree leaf. Do you think God is sleeping on a pillow in heaven? God is wholly present in all creation, in every corner, behind you and before you.
Martin Luther, Luther’s Works, Vol. 37: Word and Sacrament III, p. 57
Modern Quotes
To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us — and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.
Thomas Merton, Thoughts in Solitude, Part II, Chapter 2
